Created by Namco Bandai Games, Soul Calibur 4 is an action-based one-on-one fighting game available now on the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. It is the fourth installment to the Soul franchise. The story gyrates around an extraordinary sword that obtained an evil soul due to years of bloodshed. Each character of your choice must undergo a series of battles in order to reach and destroy the evil sword.

The Good:
Excellent graphics: This game is an absolutely gorgeous game to watch. The graphics are simply breathtaking and have come a long way since the first installment to the Soul franchise. The game play graphics are almost as great as the cinema graphics and each stage is outstandingly designed and responds to the character movement (example: Wooden floors break when characters fall onto it).
Enchanting music: The game features thrilling instrumental music to keep you involved while engaged in a fierce battle.
The characters are still awesome: As the years go by, you’d think that the characters would lose their styles and skills due to the game development. This, however, is not true with Soul Calibur 4. While each character is modified so that players don’t become bored by repetition, each character retains their signature moves.
Easy as pie: The game is fairly easy to play. Any person could beat another simply by button smashing. There is a block button, a kick button, and two attack buttons. You can use other combinations of these buttons to unleash devastating blows to your opponent.
Weapons: Soul Calibur 4 has tons of weapons that vary in range, speed, and power. Pick one of the thirty-four characters and see whose weapon suits your taste.

The Bad:
Wardrobe: Some of those character costumes have got to go. Namco overdid it a bit this time and got a little too fancy with the attire.
Uninteresting story: The storyline is a bit boring and lazy is you ask me.
Ring outs: Any Soul Calibur player knows that ring outs are the cheapest ways to win a match. It is also the most annoying way to lose. Imagine this: You’re kicking butt with your favorite player. One more hit, and your opponent is dead! Oh no! Your opponent kicks you one time and you’re thrown out of the battlefield! Let’s face it: Rings outs suck! The worst part is… You cannot turn this irritating feature off.

Let’s compare!
Soul Calibur 4 vs. Tekken 6: Namco is also famous for its revolutionary franchise, Tekken. Tekken is one of the earliest 3D fighting games. Don’t get me wrong. I love Tekken 6. I grew up playing the Tekken games. It is a lovely game, but Soul Calibur 4 is much more pleasant to play. The moves in Soul Calibur 4 are cooler to watch. If you like hardcore street fighting, go with Tekken 6. If you like weapons and cute characters, go with Soul Calibur 4.

Overall:
Soul Calibur 4 is worth buying and it is a good game to add to your collection. Despite some negative aspects of the game, it definitely has come a long way since the earlier games in the franchise.
4 of 5 stars for this game!
