Released 5 days ago on the 15th of September 2009 Wet is great combination of sword fighting and shooting game and will surely be a popular choice of fighting game to buy as a Christmas gift. You take on the character of Rubi Malone, a mercenary for hire who takes on a job to find the missing son of a wealthy business man but is subsequently betrayed by her employer and drawn into a murky world of murder and warring factions. She finds herself on the run and searching for the man who hired her in the first place.

Wet has a retro style with 70’s music and visuals and with a fast paced and exciting, if slightly unimaginative storyline. One of the best parts of the game are all the acrobatic moves your character can and must do, which are challenging but work the way you intuitively feel that they should making it easy to react quickly and pull off some cool moves. You can also shoot while performing jumps, slides, while running and so on, which is good. The sword fighting comes with some great stylized combos with satisfying graphics, but are really just there as finnishing moves to make a kill when you get in close, making this basically a shooting game in my mind.

Going into ‘rage mode’ is quite entertaining as it changes the graphics of the whole game to black white and red with a Japanese anime style for as long as it lasts. Overall the graphics are one of the strong points of this game, with an emphasis on style rather than detail and realism.

Probably the main downside of Wet is the fact that it doesn’t have a multiplayer online feature, which means that when you’ve finnished the game it is finnished and you can’t keep playing by going online, but having said that there is a large amount of unlockable extra content to the main game, so it should keep you going for a fair while.

My rating - 4.5 out of 5
